The Department of Biochemistry's weekly BCH 252 seminar series is presented this week by:

Dr. Nicholas DiPatrizio, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences, UC Riverside

Seminar Title: "It’s Not Just in Your Head: Peripheral Endocannabinoid Control of Food Intake and Obesity"

Lab Research:The DiPatrizio laboratory investigates roles for the endocannabinoid system in the integrative neurobiology and physiology that controls food intake and energy metabolism, and dysregulation of these pathways in metabolic disease and food addiction. Moreover, the DiPatrizio laboratory studies the impact of acute and chronic cannabis exposure on metabolic health and disease. A combination of state-of-the-art analytical chemistry (e.g., ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry), genetic (i.e., first-of-kind conditional organ-specific cannabinoid receptor knockout mice), surgical, biochemical, molecular, pharmacological, and behavioral tools are employed in these studies. This work will support the discovery and development of novel therapeutic strategies to safely treat obesity and related metabolic and behavioral disorders.
