Dr. Qiang Lu, Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Beckman Research Institute Professor, City of Hope
Seminar Title: "Targeting the ERKS axis cell fate regulators for brain tumor inhibition -- lessons from brain development"
Biography: Dr. Qiang Lu is a professor in Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. He received a B.S. in Biology from University of Science and Technology of China in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of California, San Diego in 1996. He conducted postdoctoral research in developmental neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. He has been a member of Department of Neurosciences (later Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine) at City of Hope since 2002. Dr. Lu’s research is aimed to understand how proliferation vs. differentiation decisions of neural progenitor/stem cells are regulated during brain development, focusing on mechanisms of cell fate determination and symmetric-asymmetric cell divisions in the developing mouse cerebral cortex. His lab also strives to translate findings from developmental biology to developing potential new therapy for brain tumors.
